A Searchable Archive of 12 Years of My Stoke Newington History Twitter/X Posts

Over the past 12 years, I have shared thousands of posts online documenting Stoke Newington’s buildings, streets, businesses, people, and changing landscape. What began in 2013 as a way of sharing local history discoveries gradually became a large public record of the area, built through daily posts across Twitter/X. That archive is now publicly searchable online in a site I created.

The archive brings together 33,241 posts and 28,776 images shared between 2013 and 2025. It can now be explored through a dedicated interface designed specifically for browsing and research, allowing posts to be searched and filtered in ways that were never possible on social media itself.

The archive can be explored by:

Several sections approach the material from different angles.

The main Posts section allows the complete archive to be searched directly. Images provides a visual way of browsing photographs grouped through time, while Locations maps posts geographically across Stoke Newington and surrounding areas. Themes groups recurring subjects such as street signs, shops, transport, architecture, memorials, and local events.

Other sections explore the archive statistically, including references to historical years across posts, activity patterns over time, and “On This Day” anniversary posts from previous years.

Although the archive contains a large amount of historical material, it is best understood as a public working archive rather than a formal catalogue. Many posts are brief observations, visual comparisons, discoveries, or snippets connected to wider research. Together, however, they form an unusually large and searchable record of Stoke Newington’s recent documentation and changing streetscape.

I hope the archive will prove useful not only to local-history enthusiasts, but also to researchers, students, family historians, journalists, and anyone interested in the area’s past.
