It was a pleasure talking to Helen Mulroy from BBC London News about my photo mash-up project. I love how the mash-ups were overlayed onto the footage to create a ‘mash-up in motion’.

I’m glad to see that the old Tyssen Road street sign on the corner of Stoke Newington High Street has been restored, presumably by Hackney Council. Five days ago I shared an intriguing, and somewhat puzzling, Hebrew advertisement announcing the opening of a Grodzinski bakery in Stoke Newington High Street. What caught my attention was that it was written in formal Biblical and rabbinic Hebrew rather than Yiddish, which many people might expect for a commercial advertisement aimed at London’s Jewish community at the time. Step inside a Georgian townhouse from the 1730s on Stoke Newington Church Street. Clissold Park. Opened in 1889. Clissold House (originally named Paradise House) was built in 1790. The octagonal bandstand was built in 1894 and removed in 1966. St Mary’s new Church was completed in 1858. The steeple was added in 1890. The ‘Castle’ Pumping Station was designed by engineer William Chadwell Mylne and architect Robert William Billings. Mylne’s name and the date 1855 are spelt out on iron plaques on the side of the buildings. This advertisement, published in 1907, is for J. Shrosbree, a shirt and collar dresser at 44 Stoke Newington Church Street. It states that the business had been established for 25 years and also operated from the Tower Works, London Fields. Some people visiting @swedenborghouse in Holborn may be surprised to come across a memorial bearing the name Clissold. For anyone familiar with Stoke Newington, it’s a name so closely associated with the area that it almost seems out of place. The former Baptist Church and the Electricity Substation in Wordsworth Road. A visit to the Coach & Horses on Stoke Newington High Street is a treat for anyone with an interest in local history. 64–66 Yoakley Road, a pair of mid-19th-century semi-detached houses with matching arched doorways, sash windows and decorative stucco detailing. I was in Lordship Park today and took the opportunity to check on one of Stoke Newington’s more unusual survivors: the broken winged dragon that once stood on a gate pillar outside No. 92. The east side of Newington Green in the mid 19th century. Mildmay Road and Mildmay Park are on the right, while Jolene bakery and restaurant occupies the left side today. Take a look inside this 300-year old house in Stoke Newington High Street. The Albion pub, 2 Clissold Road. It was converted to residential property in the late 1990s. Butterfield Green in 1989. Palatine Rd on the left and Wordsworth Rd Substation on the right. The new green public space was created on the site of Victorian houses in the early 1980s as part of the Shakspeare Walk Housing Action Area initiative.
